Itinerary

DAY 1: Depart from your home area travelling to Newcastle arriving at The Copthorne Hotel. 4 nights stay dinner, bed and breakfast. Tea/coffee and biscuits served on arrival.

DAY 2: This morning we head for the coast and South Shields, home of the late Catherine Cookson. We continue on past Marsden Bay, Whitburn and Seaburn before turning inland across to the ancient and historic city of Durham. Acclaimed as a World Heritage Site the city is dominated by the magnificent Norman Cathedral and castle, high above the River Wear. Late afternoon we return to Newcastle.

DAY 3: Today we take the road north, past Blyth and Ashington, to Amble, Warkworth and historic Alnwick. We have time to look around the town, with its mighty castle and have the opportunity to obtain lunch before returning south to Morpeth. We take a short break before making our way back to the hotel.

DAY 4: A free day for you to explore and enjoy Newcastle. Just a short walk along the quayside from your hotel is the Millennium 'Winking Eye' bridge and Newcastle's famous quayside. Enjoy a riverside stroll before maybe enjoying lunch in a quayside pub, or take a walk into the city centre for lunch and some retail therapy in Eldon Square shopping centre.

DAY 5: After breakfast we leave and begin our journey home.
