Itinerary
Day 1: Departing from your pick-up point, we travel to the Aberdeen Ferry Terminal to begin our journey to Shetland. We will board the 1900hrs sailing from Aberdeen and travel overnight to Lerwick. During the crossing, you will have an allocated cabin for your comfort, and you will enjoy an evening meal onboard followed by breakfast the next morning before disembarking.
Day 2: After a leisurely breakfast we disembark the ferry and begin our day tour. We will be joined by a local guide who will take us round the island. We will then head for the Brae Hotel where you will enjoy a 2 nights stay dinner, bed and breakfast.
Day 3: Today we head to Jarlshof Prehistoric and Norse Settlement, where you’ll delve into more than 4,000 years of human history at one remarkable site. We then travel along the main road for a short stop to view Scalloway Castle where you will have the opportunity to take some photos. In the afternoon, we visit Carol’s Ponies located in the scenic Tingwall Valley near Scalloway. The tour lasts around 30 minutes and gives you the opportunity to take photos while learning about the ponies’ history and unique breed. This is the perfect chance to meet these famous native ponies!
Day 4: Enjoy a leisurely morning in Lerwick, taking time to explore the town at your own pace. Later in the day we will depart and head for the ferry which will sail from Lerwick to Kirkwall. This evening sit back and relax as you enjoy your meal on board the ferry. Make sure to make the most of your down time on the boat as we will not be reaching Kirkwall until around 2300hrs approximately.
Day 5: Have a nice slow morning in Kirkwall taking time to relax or explore your surrounding areas. In the afternoon we take a leisurely drive crossing the Churchill Barriers before arriving at the Italian Chapel. The chapel was built by Italian prisoners during World War II and is a very popular attraction on the island. We then continue to drive around the north shore of Scapa Flow finishing our day with a short stop in Stromness.
Day 6: We will begin our day heading to the Standing Stones of Stenness, the oldest henge circle in the UK dating back over 5000 years. We then head to the Ring of Brodgar a spectacular Neolithic stone circle before making our way to Skara Brae. Over 5000 years ago Skara Brae was a thriving village, this attraction allows you to step back in time and explore this Neolithic settlement. Later in the day we head for Birsay where you will have the opportunity to visit Earls Palace and see the fantastic Atlantic coastline.
Day 7: After breakfast we depart and head for the ferry terminal to set off on our homeward journey.
