The North West Castle Hotel is a family owned and run hotel for more than fifty years, ‘The Castle’ itself, was formerly the home of Sir John Ross, who was once a famous Arctic explorer. North West Castle is an excellent base for exploring the beautiful local area and hosts 72 en-suite bedrooms and leisure facilities including a swimming pool, sauna, spa bath, gym and its very own indoor curling rink. Itinerary
Day 1: Depart from your home area travelling to the North West Castle Hotel for a 4 nights stay dinner, bed and breakfast.
Day 2: After breakfast we journey to Portpatrick, a pretty coastal village of pastel-coloured houses with its harbour and breathtaking views towards Ireland. Enjoy the morning at leisure here. Later, we make a short journey down the peninsula to Logan Botanic Gardens. The unique location of this garden creates conditions for a subtropical climate allowing many exotic plant species from Australia to Southern Africa to thrive here. Explore the lovely Walled Garden and stunning Woodland Garden where you can marvel at exotic plants. You’ll even find Palm Trees!
Day 3: Today we enjoy a scenic drive along the coastline taking in the picturesque views. We pass through the famous golfing town of Turnberry on our way to visit the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum. The museum is a celebration of the early life and the enduring legacy of Scotland’s national poet. It is home to 5,000 Burns artefacts, including his handwritten manuscripts. After our visit, we have free time at leisure to explore the seaside resort of Ayr itself before we return to the hotel.
Day 4: The morning is free in our base of Stranraer. In the afternoon we visit the magnificent Castle Kennedy Gardens - among the most famous in Scotland. The gardens host 75 acres of spectacularly designed loch side landscapes. It’s a romantic garden paradise with something for everyone to enjoy.
Day 5: After breakfast, we leave and begin our journey home.
