Overlooking the River Wear right in the city centre, the Radisson Blu hotel is in an ideal location to wander into the city for a day of exploration. Hotel facilities include an indoor swimming pool, sauna and gym. All bedrooms are en suite and have television, telephone, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel has a lift.

Itinerary

DAY 1: Depart from your home area travelling to the Radisson Blu Hotel. 4 nights stay dinner, bed and breakfast.

DAY 2: This morning, we head a short distance to Beamish, the world-famous living museum of the North. Here you can step back in time to life in North East England during the 1820s, 1900s, 1940s and 1950s. Board one of the trams, horse-drawn carts or trains and visit the 1900s traditional sweet shop, explore the 1940s wartime farm, disappear down into the 1900s mine at the pit village or go 'behind the scenes' and see some of the fascinating items in the collections of Beamish.

DAY 3: Today is a day at leisure in historic Durham. As our hotel is located near the centre of the city, there is plenty to see and do within a short walk today. Perhaps visit Crook Hall and Gardens, the famous Durham Cathedral or maybe enjoy a river cruise to take in the city from a different angle. There is plenty to keep you busy here today, or you could just sit by the river and enjoy the views over a drink.

DAY 4: Today we make for Barnard Castle. In this little town you can see where Dickens immortalised 'Dothboys Hall', take a look at Cromwell's refuge, browse around the antique shops or visit the castle itself, high above the trees. This afternoon we visit Raby Castle one of the finest Medieval Castles to remain in Britain and the resident home of the Vane family since 1626. Raby has recently undergone a redevelopment termed The Rising with a key feature being a fabulous new walled garden.

DAY 5: After breakfast we leave and head for home.
