The Blackwell Grange Hotel is a stunning 17th Century mansion, which enjoys an enviable setting in the beautiful County Durham countryside. The hotel is nestled in wooded parkland in Darlington, located between the North Yorkshire Moors and the Pennines. Hotel facilities include a leisure club with a heated indoor swimming pool, spa and a sauna. All bedrooms are ensuite and have a TV, radio, telephone, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. This hotel does not have a lift.

DAY 1: Depart from your home area in the morning travelling to The Blackwell Grange Hotel. Enjoy a 4 nights stay dinner, bed and breakfast. Tea/coffee and biscuits will be on arrival.
DAY 2: Leaving after breakfast, we begin our day with a drive to the market town of Barnard Castle (known as 'Barny' to the locals), where we have time to explore the town and obtain lunch. You can see where Dickens immortalised 'Dothboys Hall', take a look at Cromwell's refuge, browse around the antique shops, or visit the castle itself, high above the Tees. We then visit Bowes Museum, just outside the town. This is one of County Durham's biggest surprises. Housed in a majestic French-style chateau, the museum opened in 1892 and will amaze you with its superb collection of art including the beautiful Silver Swan automaton.
DAY 3: Today we head for the famous Beamish - North of England Open Air Museum, capturing the spirit of the north east in the 1800s and 1900s. Attractions include restored tram and replica bus rides, authentic town streets, a colliery village, a trip down the mine, an old-fashioned sweet shop, a working farm, steam locomotives and much more.
DAY 4: This morning, we travel to the ancient and historic city of Durham, acclaimed as a World Heritage Site and dominated by the magnificent Norman cathedral and castle sitting high above the River Wear. We have the day to explore the city with its labyrinth of little streets and alleyways. Perhaps visit the magnificent cathedral or take a gentle stroll by the river.
DAY 5: After breakfast, we leave and begin our journey home.
