The Maldron Hotel stands right at the centre of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, just minutes from the bustling shops of the city and the famous quayside. Bedrooms are all en suite and have satellite television and all the modern-day facilities you would expect from a hotel of this standard. The hotel has a lift.

NOTE: The crossing of the causeway to Holy Island is governed by tide times. It may be necessary to amend this excursion.

Day 1

Depart from your home area travelling to Newcastle, arriving at The Maldron Hotel. 5 nights stay - dinner, bed & breakfast. Tea/coffee and biscuits on arrival.

Day 2

Today we take the road north, past Blyth and Ashington, to Amble, Warkworth and historic Alnwick. We visit the magnificent Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland family dating back to 1309. The castle has featured in several Harry Potter films and also Downton Abbey. There is much to see, including the sumptuous State Rooms. The beautifully landscaped Alnwick Garden has many unique features, sculptures, the infamous Poison Garden and one of the largest tree houses in the world.

Day 3

Today we have a leisurely morning in Newcastle city centre with a chance to see the city. As the hotel is right at the heart of the city, there is plenty to see and do including the famous shopping on Northumberland Street, the Great North Museum and renowned bars and restaurants

Day 4

This morning, we head a short distance to Beamish, the world-famous living museum of the North. Here you can live the story of life in North East England during the 1820s, 1900s, 1940s.and 1950s.Board one of the trams, horse-drawn carts or trains and visit the 1900s traditional sweet shop or explore the 1940s wartime farm, disappear down into the 1900s mine at the pit village.

Day 5

Today's excursion takes us to the north of Northumberland across the causeway to Holy Island and the mysterious Lindisfarne Castle. We return to Bamburgh, with its mighty castle on the beach, for a break, maybe to visit the majestic castle on the beach, or the Grace Darling Museum.

Day 6

After breakfast we leave and begin our journey home.
