Itinerary

Step back in time with a visit to Edzell Castle, a striking 16th-century fortress renowned for its beautiful walled garden and intricate stone carvings. Explore the castle’s fascinating history and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of this hidden gem in Angus. We then head to the George Hotel in Montrose for light lunch followed by tea/coffee and cake. Later in the afternoon we head for Stonehaven. Why not take a wonder along the sandy beach, head to the town centre or grab a refreshment before heading home.

Extra Information

• Please note Edzell Castle does not have a cafe on-site.

• The courtyard is cobbled. The tower house upper levels are reached via a spiral staircase of 61 steps with no handrail.

• The garden is about 120m from the visitor centre over a compacted stone path. There is a grass path through the garden.

• The first floor of the summer house is reached via a spiral staircase of 23 steps and no handrail. The display of carved stones from the garden is in the basement and down a single step.

• The visitor centre at Edzell is accessed up a short ramp and has a small exhibition inside.

  A manual wheelchair is available for visitor use on a first-come, first-served basis.
